Diaper Science

Have you ever wondered why diapers are effective in keeping babies dry? Does it have to do with their bulk or their cotton padding? Actually it has to do with science! Come and explore the polymers that keep babies dry and see what they can really do! Ages 8+ (Free for CMOST Members, $2.00 for Non-Members. Pre-registration is required.)

BKFK Brainstorm Challenge - Catapults

Participants will work in teams to create a complex machine simply. They will create catapults using rubber bands to power the throwing arm. Ages 8+ (Free for CMOST Members, $2.00 Non-members. Pre-registration is required.)

CDPHP is sponsoring free admission to The Museum for families who mention CDPHP or the Free Friday program. CMOST members participating will receive a free planetarium dome show.

Hudson River Valley Ramble - Homing in on the Hudson
Join us on a journey from the Adirondack Mountains to New York Harbor as we travel along the 75-foot Living Hudson River exhibit. Learn about biotic vs. abiotic characteristics of the Hudson, experiment with water quality and meet some of the river's fascinating inhabitants. Head outdoors with us to investigate a tributary of the Hudson that runs along side our interpretive trail. (Pre-registration is required. Hudson River Valley Ramble - Fish Tales

Join us for a fishy education! With more than 200 kinds of fish, the Hudson River is full of fabulous species. Explore the different kinds of fish and their habitats, and how water quality affects their lives. Become an expert on fins and swim bladders. Journey outdoors to explore a local tributary of the Hudson River that runs along our interpretive trail. (Pre-registration is required. CMOST Members Only Workshop
From guitars to drums to whistles, learn all about how musical instruments make sounds. Explore waves on springs and in water, experiment with vibrations to produce different sounds, and take home an instrument you make yourself! Ages 6+. Pre-registration is required.

Creature Costumes

Have you ever wonder why some animals are spiky, some are spotted and some are very small? Animals come in all shapes in sizes for a variety of reason, but one of the primary reasons they all look so different has to do with camouflage. We will learn about the different ways that animals have developed to "blend in" with their environment, meet some of the animals in our collection and see if we can't create a creature of our own that comes with its own special costume.
